A HAUGHTY HEART

A friend was making some unkind remarks to me of a family member she was having some issues with. They were being extremely arrogant and boasting about all the miraculous things they had been doing, that apparently no one could do. They then finished only to boast about themselves and how they could accomplish these “miraculous” feats in half the time the other did. I listened without saying a word, as the very thing she was complaining about was the very thing she was doing also right then! After she had finished her rant, I very gently pointed this out to her, and she looked at me, eyes opened wide and agreed that she was doing that as well. Then she was angry at me for pointing it out.
After this incident it got me thinking though. In Proverbs 6: 16-19 I think it is interesting the order in which Solomon puts the six things that the Lord hates- the very first one- a proud look.
We are as His children to hate evil, and pride and arrogance are the ways of the evil. The pride in heart is an abomination to Him. A haughty heart leads to destruction. If there is praise to be had, let it be from another's lips not your own. He who exalts himself will be humbled and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.
