Lately in the back yard I have experienced something that I do not normally experience, flying squirrels! Our back yard is filled with many precious creatures which I thoroughly enjoy spending time with. We have bunnies hopping all around and we have ducks that come regularly among many others like the dragon flies that are so much fun to watch.

I was sitting out on the deck just relaxing and thinking when my eyes gazed upon a tiny baby squirrel. They were getting ready to do something so they kept my attention for a while. They were on the crooked branch and this branch is way on up there, but a very flimsy looking branch and not one I am used to seeing a squirrel on. They were hunching back in a weird way and I wondered if they were hurt? As I kept pondering what they were doing and why they were doing it, and why they were even on this branch to begin with, he took a flying leap and flew all spread eagled in the air to the next tree. Not too much of a fly but he definitely flew! It was quite a neat sight to see and I was glad that I had continued to watch him.

That tiny little squirrel had to work up the courage to take that leap across, but when he did he just stood tall and continued running and was probably happy giggling with glee that he had made it!

Sometimes I feel like that little squirrel, moving and darting around changing positions, taking one step forward, then two steps back, moving all around yet not actually making any progress in any direction. Mustering up the courage to move forward, yet when fear gets the best of me, I end up taking steps in the opposite direction. But yet at some point, you feel it, the attaboy/attagirl where no matter what, you know that you are just held, and giving it all to Daddy, you take one step forward, then another, and then another. In the end when you get to the place where you were so scared to go towards, we realize that Daddy had us the entire time, the entire time.

Like a little squirrel may we stand firmly upon the flimsy branch which we find ourselves upon- and fly!
