UNDERSTANDING THE POWER WE ARE GIVEN

Luke: If I don’t make it back you’re the last hope for the rebellion.

Leia: Luke, don’t talk that way, you have a power I don’t understand, I could never have.

Luke: You’re wrong Leia, you have that power to, in time you will learn to use it as I have. The force is strong in my family, my father has it, I have it, my sister has it.

There are times I feel we don’t fully realize or understand the power that we have been given. A lot of us like Leia, forget that we even have the power to begin with!! We are blessed with the Holy Spirit!!  But what does that mean?

In one of my favorite scenes from the Matrix, Morpheus does his best to explain to Neo just how powerful he eventually will become once he frees his mind. 

Morpheus: I won’t lie to you Neo every single man or woman who has stood their ground everyone who has fought an agent has died. But where they have failed, you will succeed. 

Neo: Why?

Morpheus: I’ve seen an agent punch through a concrete wall, men have emptied entire clips at them and hit nothing but air. Yet their strength and their speed are still based in a world that is built on rules and because of that, they will never be as strong or as fast as you can be. 

Neo: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets? 

Morpheus: No Neo, I’m trying to tell you that when you’re ready, you won’t have to.

This is beautiful!!! Neo is still thinking small, saying I can dodge bullets? When Morpheus says, you won’t even have to do that! So often we limit God’s power! GOD’S POWER!! The same God who parted the red sea!, who brought down the walls of Jericho, who saved Shadrach Meshach and Abednego from the furnace, who helped the young David sleigh the massive Goliath!! I could go on and on!!! 

But this is the same God who did all of those things and yet we forget that. We still think about our own strength, when it’s not about what we can do, it’s about what He can do through us with the Holy Spirit!!! 

John 14: 12-18 NKJV

12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you [c]ask anything in My name, I will do it. If you love Me, [d]keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another [e]Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. 18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Matthew 17:20 NKJV

20 For assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

This is the power that we are given. If we take the time to be ready, and fully understand our spiritual gifts and how to use them for the kingdom! Nothing will be impossible for us!!!
